
On 13th August 2016, Capt Bala was invited by Johor Women’s League or Jewel to hold a safety training workshop in Pasir Gudang, Johor.




Jewel has had a long working relationship over the years with Capt Bala , an award-winning safety activist, MD of Code Red Survival Academy and founder of Malaysian Volunteer Fire Rescue Association ( MVFRA). He has been providing training in Johor for Jewel with target groups like women and girls as well as the public in safety programmes like City Survival Skills and Road Safety Skills ( REACT).
This City Survival Skills workshop in Dewan Besar , Kompleks Pusat Bandar Pasir Gudang was a collaboration by Jewel with Jabatan Pembangunan Wanita (JPW) Johor , Pejabat Parlimen Pasir Gudang and Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Pasir Gudang (PPDPG).
The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Hjh Normala bt Abdul Samad, Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament who stressed on the importance of safety and well-being for the community. The workshop was attended by 250 teachers and counsellors of all the primary and secondary schools in Pasir Gudang, NGOs and the public.
The participants learnt to equip themselves with survival skills and avoid becoming a victim of crime. The teachers learned many safety tips and advice they could take back to share with their students in schools as Capt Bala covered a wide range of scenarios at home, at work, in the city and on the road, where safety may be threatened and provided useful tips to stay ahead of criminals.
His passion for saving lives and his involvement with disaster relief , search-and –rescue provided interesting stories to share. The participants listened with rapt attention as he spent four hours in educating and equipping participants with simple and practical but effective survival skills while lightening this serious topic with humour.
